“Compact proportions, a flowing roofline and striking, dynamic lines promise agility and driving pleasure at first sight.”
Vice President Design BMW
Emerging from the front wheels, a strong character line runs across the side towards the rear axle. A second character line below creates a dynamic counter movement that seems to accelerate as it approaches the rear. These clean lines allow the body surfaces to feel lean and sculpted.
A long wheel-base, short front overhang and a smooth bonnet-to-body transition create a compact, agile silhouette. The angled body contours, cascading roofline and reducing window profile combine to achieve an athletic ‘wedge’ shape from the side.
The rear of the new 1 Series is particularly striking. The wide stance and pronounced shoulders enforce a crouched look. While the precisely carved rear apron in High-gloss black (excluding SE models) reinforces its sporting credentials.
LED TAIL LIGHTS.
Full LED rear light profiles present a new take on the iconic BMW L-shaped design and add a striking upward dash towards the side. Helping to contribute to the overall fresh and modern appearance. Standard on all models.
TWIN TAIL PIPES.
116d and 118i models offer a single exhaust pipe whilst all four-cylinder engines (118d, 120d xDrive and 135i xDrive) employ twin tail pipes at the rear with a split profile. The standard 90mm diameter extends to 100mm for the M135i xDrive.
The exterior styling of the BMW 128ti projects a particularly fresh and youthful character. The clean-cut red air curtains at the front channel attractively into the unique M Sport alloy wheels with matching red brake calipers. Red M Performance side-sills extenuate the cars clean lines, upholding a definitive ‘ti’ logo on the side*, emphasising its hot hatch identity.
*If Misano Blue or Red Melbourne exterior paint colours are selected, the 128ti side sills, front air-breathers and ti logo foliation elements are black high-gloss instead of red.
Like all BMW design concepts, the vision of the new 1 Series was first born on a piece of paper - sketched in freehand, before its character was perfected using the latest computer aided design (CAD) techniques. Meticulous, full-scale clay modelling achieved the optimum balance between the car’s emotional form and dynamic function.
